Terms
Effective 20 August 2026 · Last updated 20 August 2026 · Version 1.0
These Terms govern your use of File Conversion, a free, browser-local still-image converter for six published pairs. By using the site you agree to this document. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. The software is provided as is, without warranty of any kind.
1. Agreement
This document is a binding agreement between you and Alexandru Jungean (“operator”, “I”, “we”) for the website at https://convert.alexjungean.com and the same artifact on its Netlify hostnames (the “Service”). Related documents form part of these Terms where they describe the same Service: Privacy, Cookies, Acceptable use, Copyright, Disclaimer, Accessibility, Licenses, Security, and the Legal notice.
The interface language of the Service is English. These Terms are issued in English. That is the governing language of the contract.
2. Operator
The Service is provided by Alexandru Jungean, a natural person in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Contact: alex.jungean@gmail.com, +40 757 673 677, https://alexjungean.com. Full identification required for an information-society service is on the Legal notice.
3. Definitions
- Published pairs means exactly: JPEG → PNG, JPEG → WebP, PNG → JPEG, PNG → WebP, WebP → JPEG, and WebP → PNG.
- Still image means a non-animated JPEG, PNG, or WebP that passes local signature, MIME/extension, full-decode, and resource-ceiling checks.
- Output means the locally encoded file or ZIP created in your browser.
- Tool routes means `/` and `/convert/[pair]` for published pairs.
4. Eligibility
You must have legal capacity to enter a contract in your place of residence. If you use the Service for an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to bind that organisation. The Service is not directed at children under 16.
5. Description of the Service
File Conversion is a static website that lets you convert still JPEG, PNG, and WebP images in the browser for the published pairs only. You select, drop, or paste files after a supported source is chosen or locally detected. The Service then validates, decodes, orients, transforms, and encodes locally, and lets you preview and download individual results or a client-created ZIP.
There are no accounts, no payments, no API access, no server conversion jobs, and no uploads. Identity conversions, animation, SVG, AVIF, PDF, Office documents, audio, video, HEIC, TIFF, ICO, and every unregistered pair are rejected or return 404.
A pair may be disabled in your browser if a runtime capability probe cannot decode a synthetic source and encode the requested target with the canonical MIME and signature. There is no server fallback and no silent switch to another format.
6. No fee, no account
The Service is provided free of charge and without registration. Nothing in these Terms creates a paid consumer contract, subscription, or SLA. Because you pay nothing, remedies that depend on a price paid are limited as described in section 16, without affecting mandatory consumer rights that cannot be waived.
7. Licence to use the Service
The operator grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to load the public pages and run the bundled converter in a standard web browser for lawful conversion of files you are allowed to convert. You may not copy the site to operate a competing hosted service, scrape it in a way that degrades availability, bypass resource ceilings, or interfere with security headers or the content security policy.
8. Your files and intellectual property
You retain whatever rights you already have in files you process. You do not grant the operator a licence in those files, because the operator does not receive them. You confirm that you have all rights needed to convert and to download the output, and that your use does not infringe copyright, neighbouring rights, trade marks, privacy, publicity, or confidentiality of others.
Site content, branding, and code of File Conversion are described in Copyright and Licenses.
9. Local processing, metadata, and alpha
You understand and accept these implemented behaviours:
- Processing occurs in your browser. Source and derived bytes, filenames, file-linked dimensions, previews, and fingerprints must not leave the browser during processing.
- Orientation is baked into pixels. Source metadata is stripped from output.
- JPEG flattening uses the background you selected before processing.
- Clipboard images are handled only when you paste, and only through the same local gates.
- Remote URL import is not offered and must not be attempted through unsupported means.
10. Output quality and browser encoders
Output is produced by the browser encoder after a canvas/worker pipeline. It is not guaranteed to be lossless, smaller, bit-identical across browsers, or suitable for any particular professional, medical, forensic, archival, or print workflow. Canvas PNG is not a reconstruction of discarded JPEG detail. WebP and JPEG quality sliders use measured defaults (0.8) unless you change them. A browser encoder fallback to another format is treated as an error, not as success.
WebKit capability is not a completed release gate of this product. Behaviour can differ by browser, OS, and device memory.
11. Resource ceilings
The Service enforces measured ceilings so a batch cannot freeze the tab through unbounded work. Current implemented limits, derived from a 2048×2048 decode evidence set, include a 2048-pixel longest edge, 4,194,304 decoded pixels, 16,777,216 encoded input bytes per file and per batch, concurrency of 2, an 8-second processing timeout, and an estimated 67,108,864-byte peak working set. Files or batches above those gates are rejected locally. These numbers are engineering limits, not a promise that every in-limit file will succeed on every device.
12. Acceptable use
You may convert files you are allowed to use. You must not use the Service to process material you do not have the right to convert or share, to attack the site or host, or for the prohibitions listed in the Acceptable use policy. That policy is incorporated into these Terms.
13. Availability and changes
The Service is provided when the static artifact is reachable. The operator does not promise uptime, support hours, or backward-compatible URLs beyond reasonable notice on this site. Pair routes, ceilings, and capability probes may change when the product contract changes. Unpublished formats stay unpublished until a separate review says otherwise.
14. Third-party infrastructure
The artifact is hosted by Netlify. Portfolio links open alexjungean.com. Those parties have their own terms. The operator is not responsible for their independent failures, except where mandatory law says otherwise.
15. Disclaimer of warranties
The software is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, quiet enjoyment, and non-infringement. File Conversion does not promise availability, accuracy of pixels for a specific use, or protection of files on a compromised device. Further detail is in the Disclaimer.
16. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising from the Service or from outputs you download, even if advised of the possibility.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator’s aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid the operator for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, which is zero because the Service is free.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any liability that cannot be limited under the law that mandatorily applies to you. If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, your mandatory statutory rights remain intact.
17. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold the operator harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from your conversion or distribution of files you were not allowed to use, or from your breach of these Terms or the Acceptable use policy, except to the extent caused by the operator’s wilful misconduct.
18. Suspension and termination
The operator may withdraw, geo-restrict, or take offline the static site, or block abusive traffic at the host, if continued operation would be unlawful, insecure, or unreasonably costly. You may stop using the Service at any time by leaving the site. Because there is no account, there is nothing to delete on the operator’s side except correspondence you chose to send.
19. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Romania, excluding conflict-of-law rules that would point to another system, except that mandatory consumer protection of your country of residence still applies if you are an EU or UK consumer.
Courts of Romania have jurisdiction, with venue in Cluj-Napoca, except that an EU or UK consumer may also bring proceedings in the courts of their residence, and the operator will bring proceedings against such a consumer only in those courts.
The European Commission’s ODR platform is described at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. The operator is not obliged to use a specific ADR body for this free tool. Romanian consumers may also contact ANPC.
20. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the related legal pages listed in section 1 are the entire agreement for the Service.
- Severability. If a court finds a clause unenforceable, the rest remains in force and the clause is modified to the minimum extent needed.
- Waiver. A failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of later enforcement.
- No assignment by you. You may not assign these Terms. The operator may assign them to a successor who continues the same Service.
- No third-party beneficiaries. These Terms do not create rights for third parties except as mandatory law requires.
- Force majeure. The operator is not liable for failures caused by events beyond reasonable control, including hosting, DNS, certificate, or network failures.
