PNG → WebP

PNG → WebP is the homepage default for PNG. It keeps a web-oriented target while preserving transparency and edge alpha from a still PNG.

Example

A still PNG with a soft transparent outline should keep that alpha in the WebP preview. Semitransparent edges are not flattened.

Limitation

The encoder is the browser WebP encoder. Quality 0.8 is the measured default; it is not a promise that every WebP will be smaller than the PNG.

Questions about PNG → WebP

Will alpha survive?: Yes for still PNG sources and WebP or PNG targets. JPEG targets flatten alpha instead.
What if I need a JPEG instead?: On the homepage, change the visible target to JPEG and set the flatten background before conversion.
