PNG → JPEG
PNG → JPEG is for still images that must become an opaque JPEG. JPEG cannot store alpha, so transparent and semitransparent pixels are composited onto the background shown next to the target control, default white (#FFFFFF).
Example
A PNG logo with a transparent edge flattened onto white becomes a .jpg. Changing the background to another color regenerates the JPEG.
Limitation
You cannot hide the background control in Advanced settings. Flattening changes what the pixels look like, so the control stays visible before and during conversion.
Questions about PNG → JPEG
- What happens to transparency?
- It is flattened onto the selected opaque color before JPEG encoding. The default is #FFFFFF.
- Are animated PNGs accepted?
- No. APNG files with an acTL chunk are rejected. Convert a still PNG instead.
