JPEG → WebP

JPEG → WebP is the homepage default for JPEG because it is a typical still-image path toward a smaller web delivery format. Encoding uses the browser WebP encoder at the measured default quality of 0.8.

Limitation

WebP here is lossy browser output, not a claim of smaller files in every case. Animated input is rejected instead of taking the first frame.

Questions about JPEG → WebP

Why is WebP the recommended JPEG target?: It is the documented homepage default for JPEG: a common web-oriented still-image path. You can switch the target to PNG on the homepage.
Is the result lossless?: No. Both JPEG sources and default WebP encoding are lossy. Do not treat Canvas output as lossless.
